Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, I had an idea to make a program which can make me not to go to music room only to do ear training. However, I found my programming knowledge I learnt in university could not help. Therefore, I searched the possible programming languages to implement my idea.

Javascript and ActionScript were shortlisted. I decided to learn Javascript as it is more widely used in browsers and [I think] more lightweight than ActionScript. Unfortunately, Javascript is not as portable as ActionScript for my idea’s implementation… I should have learnt ActionScript instead…

Well anyway I found one place to do ear training :)

Firefox 3 on Fedora 7

Firefox 3 was released some days ago…

The installers available in many languages [for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems] can be downloaded here. See the system requirements first if you’re not sure which one should be downloaded.

I have installed and used it in my Windows Vista without any problem. [unlike Firefox 2 which somehow can't connect to the internet after installation in that Vista, even though my laptop is connected to the Internet.]

I have also installed and used it in my Fedora 7. Well, I don’t know if it can be called installation anyway haha…

Here are the steps I did.

  1. Download the tar.bz file from the link I have mentioned above
  2. Extract the archive [I used right click and extract here choice]
    You’ll have a folder named firefox
  3. Copy the firefox folder to /opt using terminal window [if you're not using the root user]
    I used su and then mc [midnight commander] to copy the folder

Anyway, the point is that you have to make the firefox folder to be owned by the root.

Actually it’s not so-called installed, because I still have firefox 2 in my Fedora 7. I don’t want to uninstall it until I can download firefox 3 from yum :)

To uninstall firefox 3, I can just delete the firefox folder in my /opt folder.

To run the firefox 3, just type

$ /opt/firefox/./firefox

in a terminal window as any user.

I made a menu and desktop icon so that I don’t have to retype that thing in terminal.

Ini tuh dulu diajarin ngga sih?

I know that I am very bad at social sciences. But actually I’m very keen on the stories :)

Gw tau IPS gw tuh bego banget. Tapi sbenernya gw tertarik ama crita2nya :)

I remember when I was a [junior] high school student, I was taught about Columbus and other western explorers. I also remembered that I was taught places they visited. Oh, I Ching was also mentioned…

Gw inget pas dulu masih SMP/SMA, gw diajarin tentang Columbus dan penjelajah2 lainnya yang dateng dari barat. Gw juga inget gw dikasi tau tempat2 yang mereka kunjungi. Oh, I Ching juga disebut2…

But…

Tapi…

I don’t remember that I have ever been taught about Zheng He.

Gw ga inget pernah diajarin tentang Zheng He.
