List of Things to be Installed Immediately After Getting Linux Work in My Laptop
I’ve installed Fedora 11 i386 on my Lenovo X61 three times. Well, it’s not that I wanted to break my own hard disk… It’s just that I did small mistakes that made me [to think] to reinstall Fedora.
I guess I always install the same additional plugins and applications after each of the Linux installations. So… I think I should list them here.

Repositories to be Added
- Fedora 11 – i386 (during Fedora 11 installation)
- RPM Fusion Free (you’ll get the Non-Free as well)
—
Downloaded from Websites + Manually Installed
- Adobe Flash & Adobe Reader Plugin
I got the RPMs instead of bins so that I could just double click them to install. - Latest Netbeans (full)
- Canon MP145 (printer/scanner) drivers
—
Installed via Add/Remove Software (Yum)
I have installed too many applications via Add/Remove Software, so… These are just the ones that I can recall immediately.
- Compiz Fusion + Emerald Theme Manager +
Fusion Icon + Avant Window Navigator
I’m not sure how much useful these eye candy things are.. but I guess they are great for showing off my Fedora desktop
Additionally, they may be useful for conducting presentation (look for PDF cube thing in Add/Remove Software). - VLC (RPM Fusion Repositories needed)
I think this is the only all-in-one media player that supports frequently used codecs without hassles. - Audacious & most of its plugins (RPM Fusion Repositories needed)
The reasons why I choose Audacious are that it has extra stereo plugin and repeat one option (by setting no playlist advance + repeat) - Lyx
- Some Gnome Applets
I can’t remember so many, but I try to list it here. Timer applet, hardware sensors, music applet, open in terminal… hmm… Those are the things I can remember. ^^;

Stuff Added in Firefox
Add-Ons
I’ve ever installed a lot of add-ons, but the ones that I remember immediately are as follows.
- DownThemAll
- DownloadHelper
- FireGestures
- WOT
Bookmarks
I moved all the default bookmarks from bookmarks toolbar to bookmarks menu. After that I put Bookmark on Delicious, Share on Facebook, and Press This (WordPress) onto the bookmarks toolbar.
